The starting salary for student officers will be £21,189 (point a). At attestation, student officers become Constables and move on to point b. In addition to the above, the Northern Ireland Transitional Allowance is also payable (£3,456 per annum). 

Officers will move to point 2 of the pay-scale on completion of two years’ satisfactory service as a Constable (at attestation, student officers become Constables). From Points 2 to 7 the officer moves up the pay scale in line with their incremental date and subject to satisfactory performance as assessed in their individual performance reviews. An officer’s incremental date is normally the anniversary of the date that they were attested as a Probationary Constable.

Regarding recognition of previous continuity of service and pension / salary consequences, you should note that discussion on this matter can only take place at point of offer and each case will be considered on an individual basis. It should be noted that in terms of starting salary at time of offer, the pay and conditions of candidates with previous police service will be placed on a pay point based on their confirmed reckonable service dates.

These pay scales are reviewed on an annual basis. The 2021 Police Officer pay scales are currently under review, relevant documentation will be updated in due course.
